Mission // Careof promotes Italian and international contemporary artistic research, paying particular attention to the emerging generations of artists. The association presents itself as a platform for experimentation by artists, critics and curators, with the goal of generating an information network both for a specialized public and newcomers to the art world. The main instruments with which Careof operates are the organization of exhibitions, the growth of educational activities, the promotion of video projects in national and international exhibitions, the archiving of artists’ materials and works.
History // Careof was founded in 1987 in Cusano Milanino based on a project by Mario Gorni and Zefferina Castoldi. Since the beginning, Careof's activity has concentrated on two primary topics, developed over the following twenty years. On the one hand, Careof is designed as a space open to artistic and cultural experimentation, and on the other, as an original center for the archiving and documentation of different artists’ materials available for the consultation by the general public. A very important goal was reached in 2006, when the Ministero per i Beni e le Attività Culturali included Careof in the nationally relevant Historical Archives.

Location // Since 2002 the organization has been located at the Fabbrica del Vapore in Milan, initially in the temporary spaces of via Luigi Nono and since 2008 in the definitive space in via Procaccini 4. On April 4th Careof presented the new spaces to the public: approximately 200 square meters are dedicated to the exhibition space and the offices, while other 250 house the DOCVA – Documentation Centre for Visual Arts.
